Fundació Miró Mallorca: A Legacy of Artistic Genius

Perched on the scenic hills of Palma, the Fundació Miró Mallorca is a cultural gem dedicated to the life and work of Joan Miró, one of the most influential artists of the 20th century. More than just a museum, it is a living testament to Miró’s deep connection with Mallorca, where he spent the last 30 years of his life creating an extraordinary body of work.

Founded in 1981, the foundation was established by Miró and his wife, Pilar Juncosa, to preserve and share his artistic legacy. The site consists of three main buildings: Son Boter, a traditional Mallorcan house used as a studio; the Taller Sert, designed by architect Josep Lluís Sert as Miró’s primary workspace; and the Moneo Building, a contemporary exhibition space designed by Rafael Moneo. Each space offers a unique glimpse into Miró’s creative process, showcasing his original paintings, sculptures, drawings, and personal objects.

Visitors can explore Miró’s dynamic and colorful works, along with temporary exhibitions that celebrate contemporary artists inspired by his vision. The foundation also hosts workshops, lectures, and educational programs, fostering artistic dialogue and keeping Miró’s experimental spirit alive.

Surrounded by Mediterranean landscapes that once fueled Miró’s imagination, the Fundació Miró Mallorca is an essential destination for art lovers, offering a profound insight into the mind of a master and his deep bond with the island he called home.
